What is Stamp Duty?
Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax on property purchases in England and Northern Ireland. The rate you pay depends on the price of the property, with several tax bands and rates that rise as the price increases. Some buyers, including first-time buyers, may be entitled to relief, so it’s worth checking your result carefully. SDLT is due within 14 days of completion, and in most cases your solicitor or conveyancer will handle and submit the return on your behalf.
